When a building materials retailer opens in a regional town, the impact often extends well beyond bricks and mortar. For Pupkewitz Megabuild, the official opening of its Gobabis branch on 21 May 2026 marked a continued commitment to investing in Namibia’s regional economies and supporting long term community development.

Gobabis plays a pivotal role in the Omaheke Region, serving as a commercial hub for surrounding farming areas and an important link along cross border trade routes. The establishment of a Megabuild store in the town improves local access to building materials, hardware, and construction essentials for contractors, small businesses, farmers, and individual homebuilders.

The opening of Megabuild Gobabis reflects our belief that sustainable growth comes from investing beyond the main urban centres, said Martin Schoeman, Managing Director of Pupkewitz Megabuild. Regional towns like Gobabis are vital to Namibia’s economic fabric, and we are committed to supporting them with reliable supply, quality products, and long term partnerships.

The new branch forms part of Megabuild’s broader national expansion strategy, which focuses on responsible growth in regional centres where construction activity, housing demand, and infrastructure development continue to expand. This approach recognises the role that dependable local supply plays in enabling development across the country.

From an operational perspective, the Gobabis store contributes to local economic activity through employment creation and skills development, while strengthening the construction value chain in the region.

According to Josephat Kustaa, Head of Business Development and Innovation at Pupkewitz Megabuild, the project reflects a deliberate, long term view of regional investment. Gobabis has been on our expansion roadmap for some time, he said. The decision to invest here was guided by a combination of market fundamentals, regional importance, and our intention to build sustainable businesses that serve communities over the long term.

The official opening was marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Megabuild Gobabis premises, attended by His Worship Elwin Gariseb, Mayor of Gobabis, and Honourable Pijoo Nganate, Governor of the Omaheke Region, who served as the keynote speaker for the day. The ceremony brought together local and regional leadership alongside stakeholders from the public and private sectors that marked this milestone.

As Namibia continues to prioritise regional development, projects such as Megabuild Gobabis illustrate how private sector investment can align commercial objectives with broader socio economic goals. For Megabuild, the Gobabis opening represents another step in building futures, town by town, region by region.
